Poria is a type of fungus that usually grows on pine trees. The herb is extremely popular in parts of Asia and has been used in China for many millennia. Poria is sometimes used a tonic to improve the health of the internal organs. Known to promote diuresis, it is also considered to be highly nourishing making it a vital ingredient in Chaoji tea.

Poria has traditionally been used in many regions of Asia to expel dampness, invigorate the spleen and relax the mind. It is often used to reduce build up of fluids in the body and promote urination. Many practitioners of Chinese medicine have also propounded the calming properties of Poria – it is commonly used to deal with some of the problems associated with insomnia and certain stress-related conditions.
